First of all, I'd like to say that I've
been supportive of this protest since Adbusters initially put forward
the idea back in July. I was regularly using
the hashtag when few others had, I created a
daily aggregator of tweets for the NewsworthyNews
Twitter feed, blogged
about it, and have supported it in various
forums from the get go. I also attended the local manifestation
of a solidarity protest in my own city. And while there is certainly
nothing at all wrong with being a "Johnny-come-lately" in
regard to this protest, I'd just like to point out that I have
supported the movement and watched it grow from the start. And,
certainly, much more credit for organizing goes to again to Adbusters
for initially inspiring the protest, to others who have helped
organize (both online and off), and to those who have been in the
streets of New York inspiring people around the world. All I'm
trying to say is that I've been supportive and I have one simple
request of those who are occupying Wall Street....
Radical thoughts on a variety of issues ranging from economics & environmental degradation to protests & the military-industrial complex. For freedom, sustainability, and revolution.

A Critique of Google Plus: The Good, the Evil and the Ugly
Last night I was finally sent an invitation to try out Google+. And, after a quick examination, I'm glad I didn't believe the hype.
Don't get me wrong... I was very pleased and excited to get my invitation.
It's just that, judging by the entirely uncritical response I'd seen from my online communities,
I was almost convinced that it was actually going to be the best thing
since sliced silicon. The marketing department was working overtime to
build up expectations about this product in a way that only Google
marketers could. And scores of diehard Google fans were more than eager
to help them out -- regardless of how good the latest Google product actually was. Anyway, deep down, I knew it wouldn't be everything that
everyone was making it out to be.

Some Basic Social Media Recommendations
For those of you interested in the issues I often write about (see the tags in the lower left hand column), I'd strongly recommend trying to network a little more by following, subscribing, and linking to other blogs and sites that you feel others should see. Linking (wherever you can -- Facebook, your blog, del.icio.us, stumbleupon, etc.) and subscribing to various blogs can help them immensely in many subtle ways.
In particular, I'd like to recommend trying out (perhaps for the second time), Reddit.com & Twitter.com. The latter takes a little more work to really get the information flowing, but both can be used very effectively to find and distribute good information. I'll try to describe them both and provide some ideas about how to make them easier to use.

Why and how I oppose the G-20
As they ride in limousines from their mansions to sip champagne with the other aristocratic oligarchs, I don't feel that the G-20 leaders really understand or care about the state of the world or the people in it. It is my contention that they believe their opulence and power is well deserved – despite the wars they orchestrate and the suffering they intentionally allow to continue. Hundreds of millions go hungry each day around the globe and the G-20 ministers facilitate the policies which allow that so that they may maintain the status quo of their power. They are the modern day ladies and lords of the kingdom and they rule over others as if they were serfs or slaves (which for all practical matters they are).

Twitphilia & Twitanoia: Controlling Technology
An in-depth analysis of Twitter from a radical perspective.
I created a Twitter account during the planning phase of the protest surrounding the 2008 Republican Nation Convention. I had heard about it's text-to-phone cababilities and thought it might be useful to help organize the protesters and provide them with up-to-the-minute logistics while they were in the streets. This still seems like a potentially viable use of the system (capable of bringing flashmobs to a whole new level), but I had neither the time nor the technical understanding before the protest to make a serious push in this direction. I simply posted a prescient "tee hee" tweet and abandoned the endeavor.
